Usually as we approach the festive period the number of jobs available starts to increase. Often businesses (especially in the retail sector) employ extra members of staff approaching and during the Christmas period to deal with the additional number of people buying gifts and shopping. These jobs are usually only for a limited period of time and often end at the start of January. This year is going to be very different to anything we have ever known and no one knows exactly how busy the festive period will be for them.
At present, even with tighter restrictions coming in to play, many pubs, restaurants and shops are able to stay open but this is changing on a daily basis so no one knows where we will be during Christmas.
Hopefully with the government support, you should be able to keep your current job, but if you are out of work or a student who is looking for a temporary job to cover the holiday season then you may be in for a rough ride. Apply as early as possible and apply for as many jobs as you can as this will give you the best opportunity to land a position.
